108th Philippine Independence Day Flags, speeches, jobs

THE 108th Philippine Independence Day in Manila was celebrated with the traditional flag ceremony at the Luneta Park where Dr. Jose Rizal was executed by firing squad on December 30, 1896.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo led the ceremony that started at 8:00 am and was joined by other top government officials and members of the diplomatic corps. The event kicked off the scheduled activities for the day including a simultaneous flag raising ceremony with Vice President Noli De Castro at the residence of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo in Kawit, Cavite where the Philippine Flag was first hoisted.

Also present during the celebrations were government and private employees who took the time to show their appreciation of being Filipinos.

Meanwhile, the Office of the President and the City government of Manila hosted a job fair organized by the different agencies and private employment groups as part of the Philippine Independence Day celebration at the Luneta.

Thousands of new graduates and the unemployed trooped to the venue to try their luck on job placements here and abroad. The Department of Labor and Employment was the lead agency of the job fair.

Despite the intense heat of the day, job seekers were not to be dissuaded. They came in droves. After all, what better way to celebrate freedom day than to take the first step away from the bondage of having no work.
