THE
108th Philippine Independence Day in Manila was celebrated
with the traditional flag ceremony at the Luneta Park
where Dr. Jose Rizal was executed by firing squad
on December 30, 1896.
President
Gloria Macapagal Arroyo led the ceremony that started
at 8:00 am and was joined by other top government
officials and members of the diplomatic corps. The
event kicked off the scheduled activities for the
day including a simultaneous flag raising ceremony
with Vice President Noli De Castro at the residence
of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo in Kawit, Cavite where the
Philippine Flag was first hoisted.
Also
present during the celebrations were government and
private employees who took the time to show their
appreciation of being Filipinos.
Meanwhile,
the Office of the President and the City government
of Manila hosted a job fair organized by the different
agencies and private employment groups as part of
the Philippine Independence Day celebration at the
Luneta. |
