Romance in the Big Apple

IT is undoubtedly Woody Allen’s favorite city. In the Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan romantic flick You’ve Got Mail, it was almost pastel-colored and picture perfect. Wearing her Manolo Blahniks as she traipses down the its streets, Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City, along with the rest of the gals in the show declare how they will love it forever.

For the first time in Philippine TV history, GMA 7 uses this world-class location as the backdrop for the story of four young lovers looking for answers in the city that never sleeps. Marvin Agustin, Jolina Magdangal, Jennylyn Mercado and Mark Herras, will make hearts go-a-flutter in GMA 7’s highly anticipated romantic dramedy, I Luv New York.

I Luv New York was shot in the different landmarks of the Big Apple and it chronicles the lives of Baste (Herras), Natalie (Mercado), Polly (Magdangal) and Albert (Agustin).

It all starts with Baste’s dream of having enough money to go to the US and look for his long-lost mother. Winning the Laban o Bawi contest, Baste packs his bags to make his dream a reality and re-connects with his parents. His life takes interesting turn, however, when he accidentally meets Natalie.

Natalie is a New York type fashionista who decides to run away from her parents after they insist on marrying her off to Seb (Alfred Vargas), a rich hunk who has the connection and the finances to save the failing business of Natalie’s family. To calm her nerves, Natalie goes on a shopping spree that depletes her credit card. She then runs to her favorite cousin and kakampi, Albert, for refuge and consolation.

Sadly, Albert is also having Cupid troubles as his fiancée Wendy (Isabel Oli) dumps him. Because of his problems, he takes his fury out on the employees of the apartment he manages. Fed up with his melodramatic behavior, his key receptionist resigns.

This is where Polly enters the picture. A TNT (tago-ng-tago), Polly applies for the position when she reads about it in the papers. She is ecstatic when she gets the job but receives the shock of her life when she realizes her would be-boss is obsessive compulsive while she is manic depressive.

Baste, Natalie, Albert and Polly – four completely different and colorful individuals cross paths in a place that promises “if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere.” Two too-sweet-for-words but heart- warming romantic liaisons that blossom fully in New York City make for compulsive watchability. Feel the romance in I Luv New York coming soon at your GMA channel.
