Froms
its conceptualization in 2005 and its release
into the world in March 2006, ONE PHILIPPINES
has grown. And it’s growing fast. Like
a parent to a child, I am proud to be part
of its growth. I am happy to be an instrument
in bringing our kababayans in the United
States and other parts of the world closer
to the Philippines through the print media.
One Philippines makes the world smaller for
the Filipinos abroad.

On
December 8, 2008, ONE PHILIPPINES publisher John
Hilotin inked a contract with a Vancouver-based
publishing company, Tinig Pilipino Media Link LTD.
The contract
signifies ONE PHILIPPINES’ global capabilities
and expertise as an entertainment and lifestyle
newsmagazine for the millions of Overseas Filipino
Workers and
Pinoy migrants who want to read about positive
and heartwarming developments back home.
On a very cold night,
John and I drove to Delbrook Recreation Center
in Canada to attend the annual
Christmas party of the Filipino community in Vancouver
and its nearby cities. With this year’s theme, “It’s
the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” the event
was characterized by an abundance of good cheer.
We were given a warm reception by the evening’s
host, “Kuya Alvin,” fleet manager of
North Shore Mitsubishi Motors and community leader,
who was also the first to endorse ONE PHILIPPINES
to Vancouver’s Filipino community. Heart of
Vancouver (HOV) provided the dance music with “Great
Lights, Sound, and Entertainment” operated
by Fernando Malicat and Jun Domecena as alternates.
One of the highlights
of the Christmas party was the launching of ONE
PHILIPPINES in Vancouver, Canada.
The Vancouver publisher, Rey Calinisan, was very
excited with the turn of events. In an interview,
Calinisan said, “It is our desire to see that
this paper (ONE PHILIPPINES) will serve as a medium
by which Filipinos can share everything – from
experiences, stories, literary works, and other talents
that they may have in written communication.”
For those who would like to reach the well-to-do
community of Filipinos in Vancouver who will now
make ONE PHILIPPINES part of their lives, you may
contact Rey at 604.377.5895.
The evening’s anchors, Jessica Quebral and
Marck Anthony Gutierez-Hauser, entertained the guests
with their lovely songs. For those who would like
to hear more of Jessica’s songs (her screen
name is “Ikah”) she sings at the Front
Street in New Westminster. If you are interested
to buy her CD, it is available in local stores or
you may contact her at 778.883.7421.
