Rica Peralejo Single and loving it

‘Almost every year I had a boyfriend. But life then didn’t seem as happy as it now is.’

One can’t help but marvel at Rica Peralejo’s dedication to her studies. Despite her very busy schedule – with regular morning show Umagang Kay Ganda and teleserye Pangarap na Bituin on ABS-CBN – she still opted to go for the full 16-unit load at the Ateneo University’s four-year Creative Writing course.

“I just felt that it’s time,” Rica said of her decision to go back to school. “I knew there was something larger than me directing me back to the campus. Even the order of events - how I discovered the course, what school should I go to, even when I took the test in Ateneo – I know somehow I was bound to be there and that I would get in, I just didn’t know how.”

Since she doesn’t have a love life right now, school seemed like a wise substitute. But was it a choice to be loveless at the moment?

“I can’t really say. It really doesn’t seem to be like that. When I stopped with the last one, I didn’t mind it so much. If there’s somebody who’s trying to court me, I don’t like him naman. I do have crushes but honestly, I don’t see anyone who’s potentially the right one,” she admits.

“Plus, it always crosses my mind that I would be able to help people if I would remain single. It’s fun and happy to be single. I’ve gone through the stage where I had a boyfriend…almost every year I had a boyfriend. But life didn’t seem as happy as my life now. I feel my life gets more meaning whenever I am able to relate with many people, not just one person. But I do wish to have a child. But I would go for what the Lord wants for me.”

She adds: “I don’t believe I need to have a boyfriend to make me happy. I am not getting impatient in waiting for Mr. Right to come my way. Of course, I’ll know if the guy that comes along is the right one for me and the one that the Lord willed for me. If he’s really meant for me, whatever happens, we will be still together in the end.”

What are her plans for the future?

“I do intend to come up with a business. I’m just not sure what because I am still praying for it. I am contemplating though on having a double major, maybe on Creative Writing and Psychology. I want to write books, I want to help people. I don’t know how but I really want to help.”

“But I am really happy that I became a part of the teleserye Pangarap na Bituin. This is a singing role for me although it’s also a family drama. It feels good to be able to make use of my talent in singing plus I get to work with Sarah (Geronimo) and Maja (Salvador),” she said in parting.
