Ate Guy gets her groove back

Celebrities who feed off the limelight may recoil at the old saying, “No news is good news.” Except perhaps for Nora Aunor. After her high profile drug case in April of 2005, she has quietly worked on the terms given to her--that of undergoing rehabilitation for a year in exchange for having her case dropped. And yet much as she may wish the curious off her back, Ate Guy is still and will forever be The Superstar. Thus, she can never really lie low as she continues to selectively appear in movies and concerts all over the U.S.

On April 13, she gives her fans another chance to watch her in a series of live shows that kicks off in Seattle. If Nora Live were not thrilling enough, her new show delivers an extra dollop--a guest appearance by her enduring ka-love team Tirso Cruz III and her son with Christopher de Leon, Ian, now seen in the GMA Pinoy TV fantasy series, Super Twins.

In the thick of rehearsals for her concert, the Superstar took time to answer a few questions from One Philippines.

Aside from this forthcoming concert, what other projects do you have lined up?
I will have a show on June 8th in Sycuan at San Diego, June 23 & 24 in the Bay Area . . . Under negotiations right now are possible shows in Texas, Oregon and Las Vegas…

The more exciting one is the preparations we are making right now for a movie that will be filmed here in the various areas of the United States which we intend to finish before the year ends.

Where do you live now? How long do you intend to stay abroad?
I have relocated in Las Vegas. Pacing here is faster and I have more contacts for projects. Secondly, it reminds me so much of Manila.

We have plans of going back to Manila by end of the year, depending on the movie that we intend to do.

What’s your routine everyday?
Life here in the States is far more relaxing for me. I have the privilege of shopping or going to the grocery and riding the bart or subway and even driving, which is an impossibility in Manila. Enjoy nga ako.

Do you have a boyfriend?
No, I don’t.

What have you planned for your concert? Will you duet with Ian?
There are new production numbers that we are preparing for the show. I am excited considering that this is the first time that we will do a full blown show with my children. It should give our audience a treat so I really would like to invite everybody to see it.

What about music? Are you planning to record again?
Yes, we are lining up and compiling materials that I can record.

Sa lahat ng nangyari sa buhay mo, ano ang pinaka-importanteng lesson na natutunan mo?

May mga pagkakataon sa buhay nating lahat na may nangyayari na hindi natin alam kung bakit. I say this since I also have been a victim of circumstances. After more than a year, we have not identified the real reason to all of this. However, I am a believer that there is always a reason why God allow things to happen to us. It is a learning and humbling experience for me and again I know I could use this positively and to my adavantage.

Sa lahat ng nagawa mo na sa industriya, ano pa ang hinahangad ng isang Nora Aunor?
Maraming marami pa. The movie industry has been suffering for the longest time and I believe there still is a way to redeem it. This condition is very painful since my whole life has been this industry. Siguro nga, kung magtutulung-tulong ang mga artista for a common cause, magagawan natin ng paraan para mabigyan solution ito. In my heart still is a desire na “maibalik ang dignidad ng pelikulang Pilipino”.
