KUNG HEI FAT CHOI!
Get rich and stay safe in the year of the Fire Boar

During the 2nd Feng Shui extravaganza held at the SM Mall of Asia last month, world-renowned feng shui master Lillian Too unraveled what’s in store in the Year of the Boar when the lunar new year rolls in on February 18.

Lillian Too is the “public face of feng shui,” according to Vogue magazine. She has authored over 100 best-selling books on the subject which have been translated into more than 40 languages. She has sold over 10 million copies of her books worldwide and judging by the massive numbers, has had a hand in popularizing the ancient art and science for good fortune. She’s the founder and chairman of the World of Feng Shui (WOFS), a series of Feng Shui merchandise outlets in the world (it has a branch at SM Mall of Asia, Bay City).

But before Lillian Too completely turned her attention to sourcing and developing feng shui products for millions of feng shui aficionados worldwide, she was a successful corporate executive. She’s an MBA graduate of Harvard Business School in the US and the first woman to head a publicly listed company in Malaysia, where she’s now based. She was also the Executive Deputy Chairman of Dickson Concepts in Hong Kong and the Chairman of Dragon Seed Department Stores. Needless to say, she consistently credits all her accomplishments in the banking and retailing industries to her in-depth knowledge of feng shui.

“When I was head of a bank in Malaysia, one of the things we were handling is the treasury. Everyday, I asked my traders to sit facing their most auspicious directions. That way, even when they made bad decisions, it ultimately became good decisions. We always made money,” she said.

“If you (are) skeptical about feng shui, do the opposite of what we say and see what happens,” she warned.

Lillian said everybody can do feng shui; only the “lazy ones” need to bring a feng shui master to their homes to determine their best and worst locations. “Feng Shui is a skill you can learn,” she asserted, and that explains why she now spends her life writing and talking about how people can use and update their feng shui.

However, she warned against fully relying on feng shui. “Just a third of your luck comes from good feng shui,” she explained. The other third comes from your “heaven luck” (which has something to do with your astrological sign) and the other third is from “how you make of your life.”

Feng Shui has two aspects, concerning concerns both space and time. Thus, when we talk feng shui, we not only concern ourselves with the construction or design of fabulous buildings such as the Mall of Asia, or of our own homes’ bedroom and kitchen, but also consider the energy of time.

What’s in store for 2007 the year of the fire boar (or pig)

The Chinese has two calendars: lunar and solar. Based on the lunar calendar, the Chinese New Year is on February 18; based on solar calendar, it’s on February 4. What does it mean? According to Lillian, the 2007 lunar year “begins after start of spring. If there’s no spring in the new year, that means new ventures, new growth, is difficult.”

Because of the clash between fire and water (the year of the fire boar has a water element), Lillian also said she foresees “problems of natural disasters.” The same clash also brings heart disease, higher blood pressure and possibility of stroke.

World leaders are in a fighting mood in 2007. “International conflict continues. Yin fire signifies tension, fire, disaster and explosions.”

But studying the 2007 chart further, Lillian allowed that 2007 won’t be such a bad year altogether. In fact, she predicted that it will be a good year for getting rich.

“When I looked at the chart,” she said, “I saw that it is balanced— all the five elements for a good year are there.” She said the new year starts on a good day and the chart has wealth and luck written on it.

If you want to get rich this year, she continued, have water (like a swimming pool, fountain, water pitchers or picture), and make sure this water is in the right place. If the water is placed wrongly, she said you may not lose money, but your spouse may develop a “roving eye.”

The best place this year is the southwest, she said. “The ‘8’ star, the star of prosperity and abundance, is in the southwest.” To activate it, she advised positioning water in that location. If the southwest in your home happens to be in a corner, or in the living room, or out in the garden, she suggested placing water in these places as well. In fact, she advised, if your toilet happens to be in the southwest, she wondered if one could stop using it for the year at least to avoid “flushing out your good luck.”

Year of women

Lillian was also very vocal in saying that 2007 is the year of women. “If you have to listen to advice, listen to the matriarch,” she said. The combination of tiger and boar in 2007 also indicates secret friends. She suggested activating one’s secret friend based on our animal sign. For instance, the Snake’s secret friend is the Monkey; the Rooster has the Dragon, while the Dog has the Rabbit.

Strong earth is the element of the year that’s why for luck in 2007, she advocated surrounding oneself with or wearing plenty of metal, like gold, which she claimed is the ultimate metal. The color white is also perfect for homes. For her part, Lillian herself plans to have her black hair done with white streaks for 2007.

Lillian also advised men to court luck by buying “lots of gold for your wife.” She explained that “if the man, on opening his eyes, see a vision of loveliness decked out in jewels, it brings good luck.” In the house, she urged people to place a golden laughing Buddha.

For controlling the stars of affliction

Lillian also said that the “5 yellow,” a star that brings affliction, flies to northeast this year. To suppress it, especially if one’s house faces the northeast (like the Mall of Asia), she suggested putting metal energies (or putting anything metallic) in front of the house.

The “burglary star” is in the north this year. If one’s door faces north, protect it more this year. The bedroom that’s in the north may indicate being cheated in love.

The “hostile 3 star” that brings violence and fighting flies to northwest. To minimize its energy, Lillian advised against placing chimes or green nor a functioning TV or radio in that position.

For good luck

As mentioned, southwest is the most auspicious direction this year. If one’s house faces southwest, then it’s fabulous, said Lillian. For those who wish to jumpstart their careers, southeast is the winning direction. For those who dream of hitting it big, divine luck is indicated in the south. For those who wish to complete something, or wants to have a prosperous future, the east is the direction to activate. For those who seek love, the west is it.

How to determine where south, east, west and north in one’s home or office? Simple, said Lillian. “Stand very near the front of your house and use compass.”

To activate love, she urged people to place crystals in the western part of their homes. To activate luck in the south, she suggests placing “8 immortal coins.”

She said that other great ways of energizing these specific areas of the house are by always leaving some light on, and of course, placing in the area.
