SISTERS
Janice and Gelli de Belen have it all – successful
careers, loving families, and the opportunity to work
together on a top-rating show. With their “adopted”
sister Carmina Villaroel, these three soul siblings
dish out a talk show like no other.
“We’re
okay, we’re doing very well,” Janice said
of their show in an interview last year for the iGMA.tv
website.
“ Working on Sis is good, fun and exciting,”
Gelli added.
Over the years, Sis has brightened morning TV with
its interesting guests, engaging song and dance numbers,
and fun games. The Sis-ters even have a segment where
they dish out practical advice for every woman.
Each episode is special one for the “sisters,”
which Gelli described as “madaming fun times.”
Each of the hosts draws out the best from their guests
in the form of zaniness and laughter, experiences
and lessons.
“ We have games, we have guest singers,”
Gelli described. “Iba-iba, e. I guess it’s
the variety of people we meet and get to watch aside
from Carmina and Janice that’s fun.”
Most siblings can’t stand being with each other
for extended periods of time, but this is not the
case with the de Belen sisters. Janice and Gelli spend
lots of time together, and enjoy every minute of it.
In Janice’s case, it’s one of the things
she likes most about working on the show.
“ Masaya. Magkasama kami ni Gelli halos parati,”
Janice said. “Yung tatlo kami. Masaya. Naglolokohan,
naglalaitan.”
Child
stars
Janice, Gelli and Mina have been in the limelight
ever since they were kids. They credit their showbiz
youth as part of the secret of their longevity in
the business. Working in showbiz at such a young age
has taught them how to be independent, resilient,
and hard-working.
“ Puyat,” is what Gelli remembers the
most about being a child star. “Walang unforgettable
kasi at the age of 7 or 8 years old, puyat ka na non,”
she laughed.
Of course, one of the things that makes working in
showbiz, even at a young age, so appealing is that
work is also fun!
“ There are so many experiences kapag child
star (ka),” Janice recalled. “I guess
it was the learning process, the whole process of
being a child star. Basta nag-e-enjoy ka, you get
paid. You can buy what you want. It’s the whole
idea (of it). You meet new people and get to do new
things.”
The Sis-ters love for what they do continues today.
Working on Sis gives them the chance to hang out with
friends, meet new people, and most of all, be themselves
while reaching out to their viewers.
“ Nagbe-blend na kaming tatlo”, Janice
said..
“ I don’t have to pretend (when I’m
on cam),” Gelli added. “I’m very
comfortable with (my co-hosts). I don’t have
to adjust too much kasi I’ve known them for
a long time.”
It’s the special chemistry that goes beyond
blood ties with three true sisters. |
